Atrocious! Silly and poorly acted. Diabolical story. A word of advice to anyone going down the Amazon jungle way - don't take a white woman with you. All they can do is scream!
Very much a Hallmark film but one of the better ones. What is nice about it, but at the same time, quite improbable, is that everybody in the town is so damn nice. Not a discordant voice or note or word from anyone and very touchy-feely American. A tear jerker. I enjoyed it and liked the story.
Robinson plays a tough criminal facing the electric chair. The whole cast is good and the plot is tight knit and really good. A must see for all Robinson fans and for the others, you will find it to ba a very good gritty and tough film.
Stanwyck always tended to play unusual women. This is about a gambling addiction. In a way uncomfortable to watch, but very well done. A fleeting appearance by Tony Curtis as the bellboy in his fourth film.
I liked this film. Though an implausible plot, it's gripping as well as interesting. Very elegantly made and as elegant as the clothes the actors wore. Classy is a good word for it.
A neo-realist film based in Italy in similar vein to the Italian neo-realism that was popular in those days. A good film, though largely unknown which is surprising as it's directed by Joseph Losey, with a good plot and an excellent cast. It takes place in impoverished residential quarters with war damage still visible. Paul Muni is good but acting honours in my view go to Rome-born Vittorio Manunta as little Giacomo. Amazing he only starred in 4 films in the early 50's, then disappeared from the screens. He died 2 years ago in Florida.
