It's hard to pin this one down. I have a feeling with just a few changes, this movie could be a stunner, but I can't say what needs to be changed. It has an intriguing premise and competent actors working an interesting script, but the pieces just don't fit together in a satisfying way. Still it's worth a watch. Maybe I missed something in the middle that makes everything clear and you're just too polite to tell me.
The sound was very distracting in my opinion. Some dialogue was recorded on set with an overhead boom with big airy reverb and in the same scene, a few lines were rerecorded in a studio with the mic six inches in front of the actor's face, no attempt made to even fake a little reverb. Also, a couple actors evidently had too much of a Russian accent, so their voices were overdubbed by actors who overEMPHasized their LINES because THAT'S what you DO when you're not taking PART in the physical ACTion - like old-time radio, where you had to pretend you were running up the stairs or lifting the barbells onto the top shelf. Sometimes I was able to ignore the soundtrack and found a perfectly ordinary little ghost story hiding underneath, nothing spectacular but not too shabby either. But then there would a scream in my ear that didn't jive with the scream I was seeing and we're gritting our teeth again.
This is one of those atmospheric horrors, no gore or monster, and with just a touch of body horror, the tension builds through some very effective staging and camera work. The actors do a very good job with a somewhat predictable script, but then again it is Based On, so that's probably unavoidable.
There's not much new here, but the old familiar parts are stitched together fairly well. You just won't be able to remember much about it after a week or two. Even the actors are disposable.
At least it's short. It ends with a four-minute scene of the actress staring slightly off-camera at ??? while the background gets CGIed to within an inch of its life. This follows a scene which seems to be becoming increasingly popular, the one where the whole screen is pitch black. You might as well be listening to the radio.
A great atmospheric horror film. No bloodthirsty monster, in fact very little gore at all, just a sense of foreboding, a feeling that something is going on and you have a vague notion of what could be, but there are several twists that prove you're not as smart as you think you are. Bonus points for having an effective soundtrack instead of least year's Top of the Pops blaring at you.
yes, this one and Cuckoo are overdubbed in Russian. They claim to be YIFY torrents but I doubt it, will have to snoop around their website. Would just like to ask the moderator(s) to look into the uploader of these two torrents and throw some kind of flag on them so folks don't waste time and bandwidth on crap like thyis.
Another one of those movies that didn't have any money in the budget for a monster so we have a fistful of people running around in the dark screaming. Plus it's supposed to be cobbled together from several different cellphones and recorders, so we have wild swings of the camera, never settling on any particular spot until they stop running and screaming. Then they either sit and cry or wander around and cry. It has something to do with druids and sacrifices, but I must have missed the parts that explained everything.
This was an infuriating watch. I thought I might find out what science was behind the evangelicals' cosmology. Turns out - the Bible says so. That's it. And they pull apart accepted scientific theories without any appreciation of what that theory actually says, only what they believe it to say. News flash: evolution does not say we evolved from monkeys, it says we descend from a common ancestor. Chihuahuas didn't spring from St Bernards, but they both trace back to the common wolf. And their theory of stellar evolution is that the theory of stellar evolution is wrong. So what's the correct theory? They were intelligently designed! OK, but how do they form? Intelligently! Go ahead, watch this if you want to see small-minded people try to have a coherent thought.
It starts out as a drama and ends up in horror territory, but the story wanders around so aimlessly they would have been better off picking one or the other and concentrating on that. And those goofy fake-documentary interview scenes add nothing and serve no purpose. This could make a good horror movie if the script was tightened up and the extraneous crap was trimmed. As is, it's only mediocre.

I only made it about halfway through. Gillian Anderson whispered everything line she had and it got on my nerves. Everyone else spoke at a normal level, so it's not that I'm too stupid to turn up the volume. She just whispered constantly. Maybe I'm supposed to think she's letting me in on a secret, but it was just annoying.
Season 1 was very good. There wasn't a whole lot of filler and fluff that most shows stick in to puff up the runtime across eight episodes, most of the various threads had some degree of bearing on the main story and ended up tying together fairly well. I only had one or two moments where I thought I was watching a soap opera or music video instead of a drama, but they soon passed and we were back in the story. I'm even going to try Season 2.
A bunch of obnoxious young people run around shouting, trying to make themselves heard over an obnoxious soundtrack, demanding that total strangers drop everything and help them get out of a predicament they got themselves into without anybody's help at all. Meanwhile various monsters stalk them and pick them off one by one until only the cutest boy and girl are left to realize they is in wuv of each other, and in a surprise twist, the most obnoxious character is still alive after all. I don't know why I keep getting movies like this. It follows the same formula as any number of other obnoxious-young-people movies, hits all the same notes, uses the same overall plot, hell, for all I know it uses the same soundtrack. There are some decent performances by some actors I've never heard of, that was a pleasant surprise, too bad they were wasted in a banal movie.
You don't need a monster for this movie, you'll gladly kill these mofos yourself, if only to shut off that annoying music.
