@kimdaa This installment is suppose to land in between Alien & Aliens timeline. 20 years after Alien. also regarding your comments about the androids ... Rook and Ash share the same consciousness because they are both connected to the operating system, "Mother", that runs the spaceships in the Alien films. the rock Romulus Research Facility found in space is the original Alien that cocooned itself to hibernate in space. hope this helps to better understand the movie.
This is a movie for entertainment purposes. It's a visual spectacle that delivers. Watch it on a large TV screen. It's not a docu-drama, documentary, investigation or analysis cinema. there is no proof that aliens have been hunting down humanity. that being said; Beautiful petite woman, in any era of the past, that speak whatever language they please, can go kick alien ass! And to many of the past commentators regarding this movie; Stop being so intimidated by women. they live on this plant just like men do. they are not aliens. You'll live happier.
In my opinion; Criticism should be detail-oriented. Especially negative ones.
Plot is pretty straight forward with an added drama subplot having considerable duality which thinned out the main story. Fantasy is used to keep the audience engaged but is only really center stage at the end. F/X are done well but should have had more definition in forming past images to give more emotion to the storyline. Storyline pace moves swift regarding circumstance but the lack of character build especially regarding the main charter, leaves the audience uninvested.
Actors are playing there characters well and no one is over the top or lacking depth in their performance (culture diversity characters).
Thin main story; results in not having too much interest in the outcome and with the added lack of building the ending's suspense, will not give the rest of the movie its due credit.
Only rewarding aspect of this "Afternoon Special" on an annoying thirty-something couple, is the back drop of Hong Kong. Emily Ting (writer/director) should be punched in her left tit. Can't believe IMDB rated this a 6.4
